Green Coffee Buyer

Job Description

A coffee shop seeking exceptional quality and dependable sourcing is looking for a knowledgeable Green Coffee Buyer to manage the selection and purchasing of high-quality unroasted coffee beans. The successful candidate will combine market awareness, strong supplier relationships, sensory evaluation skills, and commercial judgement to support an excellent coffee programme.

Responsibilities

• Source and evaluate green coffee beans from reputable producers, exporters, importers, and suppliers.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with coffee suppliers and producers.
• Assess coffee quality through cupping, sensory analysis, and sample evaluation.
• Monitor coffee markets, pricing, availability, harvest cycles, and emerging origins.
• Negotiate purchasing terms, prices, contracts, and delivery schedules.
• Maintain accurate records of purchases, samples, supplier information, and inventory.
• Collaborate with roasting and coffee service teams to ensure selected coffees meet quality standards.
• Evaluate samples and make purchasing recommendations based on flavour, consistency, value, and availability.
• Support responsible and transparent sourcing practices.
• Track quality throughout the purchasing and delivery process and address supplier issues when necessary.

Qualifications

• Degree or professional qualification in coffee, agriculture, food science, business, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred.
• 2 to 4 years of experience in green coffee buying, coffee sourcing, importing, roasting, or a related role.
• Strong knowledge of coffee origins, varieties, processing methods, and harvest cycles.
• Demonstrated sensory evaluation and cupping skills.
• Strong negotiation, communication, and supplier relationship management abilities.
• Good understanding of coffee pricing, procurement, logistics, and inventory management.
• Excellent analytical and organisational skills.
• Ability to make informed purchasing decisions while balancing quality and commercial objectives.
• Passion for specialty coffee and a strong interest in developing knowledge of the global coffee industry.
