Green Coffee Buyer

Job Description

We are looking for a knowledgeable and commercially minded Green Coffee Buyer to join our coffee shop team. The successful candidate will source high-quality green coffee beans, build strong relationships with suppliers and producers, and help ensure every coffee we serve meets our quality and sourcing standards. This role is ideal for someone with a strong understanding of coffee origins, processing methods, quality evaluation, and purchasing.

Responsibilities

• Source and purchase high-quality green coffee beans from reputable producers, exporters, and suppliers.
• Evaluate coffee origins, varieties, processing methods, grades, and seasonal availability.
• Conduct or participate in cupping sessions to assess flavour, aroma, body, acidity, and overall quality.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, delivery schedules, and purchasing terms with suppliers.
• Monitor market conditions, crop forecasts, availability, and pricing trends.
• Build and maintain productive relationships with coffee producers and suppliers.
• Coordinate with roasting and coffee shop teams to understand product requirements.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records, contracts, inventory information, and supplier documentation.
• Track green coffee stock levels and plan purchases according to projected demand.
• Support quality control by monitoring samples and shipments against agreed specifications.
• Research new origins, producers, and coffees that could strengthen the coffee shop’s range.
• Promote responsible and transparent sourcing practices throughout the purchasing process.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in business, supply chain, agriculture, food science, coffee studies, or a related field is preferred.
• 2 or more years of experience in coffee buying, green coffee sourcing, coffee trading, procurement, or a related role.
• Strong knowledge of coffee origins, varieties, processing methods, grading, and quality characteristics.
• Practical experience with coffee cupping and sensory evaluation.
• Strong negotiation, purchasing, and supplier relationship management skills.
• Good understanding of coffee supply chains and international market trends.
• Excellent numerical, analytical, and record-keeping abilities.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple suppliers, orders, and deadlines effectively.
• Willingness to travel when required to meet suppliers, producers, or attend coffee-related events.
