Trainee Chef

Job Description

Our restaurant is looking for an enthusiastic and dependable Trainee Chef to join our kitchen team. This opportunity is ideal for someone who wants to develop practical cooking skills, learn from experienced chefs, and build a strong foundation in professional restaurant food preparation. The successful candidate will receive hands-on exposure to kitchen operations while contributing to the preparation and presentation of quality dishes.

Responsibilities

• Assist chefs with food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, portioning, and basic cooking tasks.
• Follow recipes, preparation methods, and kitchen instructions accurately.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organisation throughout the kitchen.
• Help receive, store, and rotate food ingredients appropriately.
• Support the team during busy service periods.
• Prepare ingredients and workstations before kitchen service begins.
• Monitor food quality and report any issues to the supervising chef.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, and workplace safety procedures.
• Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils, and preparation areas.
• Learn new cooking techniques and improve culinary skills through daily practice and guidance.

Qualifications

• Genuine interest in cooking and professional food preparation.
• Basic knowledge of food hygiene and kitchen safety.
• Willingness to learn different cooking methods and kitchen techniques.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Ability to follow instructions carefully and work under supervision.
• Reliable, punctual, and organised approach to work.
• Ability to remain calm and focused during busy restaurant service.
• Previous kitchen experience or culinary training is an advantage but not essential.
• Physical ability to stand for extended periods and perform routine kitchen duties.
