Kitchen Assistant

Job Description

Our restaurant is looking for a dependable and energetic Kitchen Assistant to support the kitchen team in delivering clean, organised, and efficient food preparation and service. The successful candidate will assist with basic food preparation, maintain high standards of cleanliness, and help ensure the kitchen operates smoothly during busy service periods.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist chefs with food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
• Keep workstations, utensils, equipment, and storage areas clean and organised.
• Wash dishes, cookware, and kitchen equipment as required.
• Receive, store, and organise food supplies according to kitchen procedures.
• Support chefs during preparation and service periods.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.
• Dispose of waste appropriately and maintain a tidy kitchen environment.
• Monitor kitchen supplies and report shortages or damaged items to the supervisor.
• Assist with stock rotation and proper food storage.
• Work cooperatively with chefs and other restaurant staff to maintain efficient service.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Previous experience in a restaurant, kitchen, catering environment, or similar role is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation, kitchen hygiene, and safe food handling.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately and work efficiently under pressure.
• Good physical stamina and willingness to perform practical kitchen duties.
• Strong teamwork and communication skills.
• Reliable, punctual, and attentive to cleanliness and detail.
• Food safety training or a relevant culinary certificate is an added advantage.
