Job Description

Our coffee shop is passionate about serving exceptional coffee, from carefully selected beans to expertly prepared cups. We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Coffee Roaster to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for transforming green coffee beans into distinctive roasted profiles while maintaining consistency, quality, and freshness across every batch.

Responsibilities

• Roast green coffee beans according to established profiles and quality standards.
• Monitor roasting temperatures, timing, colour, aroma, and bean development throughout each batch.
• Develop and refine roast profiles for different coffee varieties and origins.
• Conduct regular cupping and sensory evaluations to assess flavour, aroma, body, and balance.
• Maintain accurate roasting records, batch information, and production reports.
• Inspect green beans for quality and identify defects before roasting.
• Manage roasting schedules to maintain adequate coffee stock and freshness.
• Clean, maintain, and safely operate roasting equipment.
• Work closely with baristas and management to ensure roasted coffee meets the shop’s service standards.
• Stay informed about coffee trends, roasting techniques, and developments within the specialty coffee industry.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Coffee Roaster or in a professional coffee roasting environment.
• Strong understanding of roasting principles, bean development, and roast profiling.
• Good knowledge of coffee origins, processing methods, and sensory characteristics.
• Experience with cupping and coffee quality evaluation.
• Strong attention to detail and consistency.
• Ability to operate and maintain commercial roasting equipment safely.
• Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
• Relevant coffee roasting or specialty coffee certification is an advantage.
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
• A genuine passion for coffee and continuous learning.
