Job Description

We are a quality-focused coffee shop dedicated to serving exceptional coffee through careful sourcing, precise preparation, and consistent standards. We are looking for a skilled and passionate Coffee Roaster to join our team and take responsibility for producing well-balanced, flavourful roasted coffee that meets our quality expectations.

Responsibilities

• Roast green coffee beans according to established profiles and quality standards.
• Monitor temperature, timing, airflow, and other roasting variables throughout each batch.
• Develop and refine roast profiles to achieve desired flavour characteristics.
• Evaluate green beans for quality, consistency, and potential roasting requirements.
• Conduct cupping and sensory evaluations to assess roast performance.
• Maintain accurate records of roast batches, profiles, and quality observations.
• Operate, clean, and maintain roasting equipment safely and efficiently.
• Identify roasting inconsistencies and make appropriate adjustments.
• Manage coffee inventory and communicate when green bean supplies need replenishment.
• Work closely with baristas and management to ensure roasted coffee meets service requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organised, and safe roasting workspace.
• Follow established health, safety, and food-handling procedures.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Coffee Roaster or in a professional coffee production environment.
• Strong knowledge of coffee beans, roasting techniques, and roast development.
• Understanding of how temperature, airflow, time, and batch size influence coffee flavour.
• Experience with coffee cupping and sensory evaluation is an advantage.
• Ability to operate and troubleshoot commercial roasting equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and consistency.
• Good record-keeping and organisational skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the wider coffee shop team.
• Good communication and problem-solving abilities.
• Relevant coffee-roasting training or professional certification is an advantage.
