Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Coffee Roaster to join our coffee shop team. This role is ideal for someone who understands the craft of transforming carefully selected coffee beans into exceptional roasts while maintaining quality, consistency, and flavour standards. The successful candidate will play an important role in creating memorable coffee experiences by managing the roasting process and supporting the overall coffee quality of the shop.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor coffee roasting equipment to achieve consistent roast profiles.
• Evaluate green coffee beans and determine suitable roasting techniques based on quality and flavour goals.
• Develop and refine roast profiles to enhance aroma, taste, and overall coffee experience.
• Monitor roasting temperatures, timing, and batch performance while maintaining accurate records.
• Conduct quality checks through sampling, cupping, and sensory evaluation.
• Maintain cleanliness and proper care of roasting equipment and work areas.
• Manage inventory of green coffee beans and roasted products.
• Collaborate with baristas and the coffee shop team to ensure product consistency.
• Stay updated on coffee trends, roasting methods, and industry standards.
• Follow health, safety, and quality control procedures at all times.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in coffee roasting or a strong understanding of the coffee production process.
• Knowledge of different coffee origins, bean characteristics, and roast development techniques.
• Ability to operate and maintain commercial roasting equipment.
• Strong attention to detail with excellent sensory evaluation skills.
• Good organisational and record-keeping abilities.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a team.
• Passion for specialty coffee and commitment to delivering high-quality products.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adjust roasting methods when needed.
• Excellent communication skills and a willingness to share coffee knowledge with colleagues.
