Kitchen Steward

Job Description

Our restaurant is looking for a dependable and hardworking Kitchen Steward to support the kitchen team and help maintain a clean, organised, and efficient working environment. The successful candidate will play an important role in keeping kitchen areas, equipment, utensils, and service items properly cleaned and ready for use throughout each shift.

Responsibilities

• Wash, clean, and sanitise dishes, utensils, cookware, and kitchen equipment.
• Keep kitchen floors, work surfaces, sinks, storage areas, and other assigned spaces clean.
• Assist kitchen staff with basic cleaning and support duties during busy service periods.
• Collect, sort, and dispose of waste according to restaurant procedures.
• Maintain adequate supplies of clean plates, glasses, cutlery, and kitchen tools.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and workplace safety standards.
• Handle cleaning products and equipment responsibly.
• Report damaged equipment, maintenance concerns, or supply shortages to the appropriate supervisor.
• Assist with receiving, organising, and storing kitchen supplies when required.
• Support chefs and other kitchen team members with general back-of-house duties.

Qualifications

• Previous experience as a Kitchen Steward, Dishwasher, Cleaner, or in a similar restaurant role is an advantage.
• Good understanding of kitchen cleanliness and sanitation practices.
• Ability to work efficiently in a busy restaurant environment.
• Physically able to stand for extended periods and perform routine cleaning duties.
• Reliable, punctual, and willing to work as part of a team.
• Good attention to cleanliness and detail.
• Ability to follow instructions and established safety procedures.
