Order Taker

Job Description

Our cafe is looking for an attentive and service-focused Order Taker to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for welcoming customers, accurately recording orders, answering menu-related questions, and ensuring each order is communicated clearly to the preparation team. We are seeking someone who is organised, courteous, and comfortable working in a busy cafe environment while maintaining a positive customer experience.

Responsibilities

• Welcome customers and assist them with placing their orders.
• Accurately record food and beverage selections, modifications, and special requests.
• Explain menu items, ingredients, prices, and available options when required.
• Process orders efficiently and communicate them clearly to the kitchen or preparation team.
• Confirm orders with customers to minimise errors.
• Handle customer questions and resolve basic order-related concerns professionally.
• Process payments and provide receipts where required.
• Maintain an organised and clean ordering area.
• Monitor order queues and help maintain a smooth service flow.
• Follow cafe procedures for food safety, hygiene, and customer service.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a cafe, restaurant, retail, or customer service role is preferred.
• Strong verbal communication and active listening skills.
• Good attention to detail and accuracy when recording orders.
• Basic numeracy and familiarity with handling payments.
• Comfortable using a point-of-sale system or willing to learn.
• Ability to remain calm and courteous during busy periods.
• Reliable, punctual, and well presented.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• A certificate or training in customer service, food service, or a related field is an advantage.
