Job Description

A well-established restaurant is looking for a talented and driven Sous Chef to support the Head Chef in delivering exceptional dining experiences. This role is ideal for a culinary professional who thrives in a fast-paced kitchen, enjoys leading by example, and is committed to maintaining the highest standards of food quality, consistency, and kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Assist the Head Chef in planning, preparing, and presenting high-quality menu items.
• Supervise kitchen staff and coordinate daily food preparation activities.
• Ensure all dishes are prepared and presented according to established recipes and standards.
• Monitor food quality, portion control, and presentation before service.
• Maintain food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.
• Support inventory management by monitoring stock levels and reducing waste.
• Assist with menu development, seasonal specials, and recipe improvements.
• Train, mentor, and motivate junior kitchen team members.
• Ensure kitchen equipment is used correctly and reported for maintenance when necessary.
• Step into the Head Chef’s role during their absence to oversee kitchen operations.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a senior kitchen leadership role within a restaurant.
• Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food preparation, and kitchen management.
• Ability to lead, coach, and develop a high-performing kitchen team.
• Excellent organisational and time management skills.
• Strong understanding of food safety, hygiene, and sanitation regulations.
• Ability to perform effectively under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
• Experience with stock control, food costing, and waste management.
• Creative approach to menu planning and problem-solving.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Professional culinary certification or equivalent training is an advantage.
