Job Description

A dynamic restaurant is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Purchasing to oversee all procurement activities and ensure the timely sourcing of high-quality food, beverages, equipment, and operational supplies. This leadership role is ideal for a professional who excels in supplier negotiations, inventory optimization, cost management, and maintaining consistent product quality while supporting operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement purchasing strategies that align with the restaurant’s operational and financial goals.
  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate contracts with suppliers and vendors to secure competitive pricing and reliable service.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with approved suppliers while identifying new sourcing opportunities.
  • Monitor inventory levels and purchasing trends to ensure adequate stock without excessive overordering.
  • Collaborate with culinary, operations, finance, and management teams to forecast purchasing needs.
  • Ensure all purchased goods meet established quality, safety, and food compliance standards.
  • Review supplier performance regularly and resolve procurement-related issues promptly.
  • Analyze market conditions, pricing fluctuations, and supply chain risks to make informed purchasing decisions.
  • Prepare procurement budgets, spending reports, and cost-saving recommendations for senior management.
  • Oversee purchasing documentation, contracts, invoices, and inventory records for accuracy and compliance.
  • Lead and mentor purchasing personnel, fostering efficiency and professional development.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance procurement processes and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Procurement, Hospitality Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of purchasing or procurement experience, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership role within the restaurant, hospitality, or food service industry.
  • Strong knowledge of food purchasing, supplier management, inventory control, and procurement best practices.
  • Demonstrated success in negotiating contracts and achieving measurable cost savings.
  • Excellent analytical, budgeting, and financial management skills.
  • Proficiency in procurement, inventory management, and enterprise resource planning (ERP) software.
  • Strong understanding of food safety regulations, quality assurance standards, and supply chain management.
  • Outstanding leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, multi-location environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
