Director of Purchasing

Job Description

A growing café business is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Purchasing to oversee procurement activities, supplier relationships, inventory planning, and cost management. This role is ideal for a professional who can ensure the timely acquisition of quality products while maintaining budgetary efficiency and supporting operational excellence across the café.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement purchasing strategies aligned with business goals.
• Source, negotiate, and manage contracts with suppliers and vendors.
• Monitor inventory levels and coordinate purchasing activities to prevent shortages.
• Evaluate supplier performance and maintain strong business relationships.
• Analyze market trends, pricing, and product availability.
• Collaborate with management and kitchen teams to forecast purchasing needs.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and procurement procedures.
• Prepare purchasing reports, budgets, and cost analyses.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings without compromising quality.
• Oversee receiving procedures and inventory control processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
• Proven experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain management, or inventory control, preferably within the food service or hospitality industry.
• Strong negotiation and vendor management skills.
• Excellent analytical and financial management abilities.
• Proficiency in inventory management and procurement software.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Knowledge of food safety standards and hospitality purchasing practices is an advantage.
