Job Description

Our restaurant is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Commis Chef to join our kitchen team. This role is ideal for an aspiring culinary professional who wants to build practical experience, strengthen cooking techniques, and contribute to the preparation of high-quality dishes in a fast-paced restaurant environment. The successful candidate will work closely with senior chefs while maintaining excellent standards of food preparation, cleanliness, and kitchen organisation.

Responsibilities

• Assist chefs with food preparation, including chopping, portioning, marinating, and basic cooking tasks.
• Prepare ingredients according to recipes and kitchen requirements.
• Support the smooth operation of kitchen sections during service.
• Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, and consistency.
• Store ingredients correctly and monitor food freshness.
• Keep workstations, utensils, and kitchen equipment clean and organised.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, and kitchen procedures at all times.
• Assist with receiving and organising kitchen supplies.
• Minimise food waste through careful preparation and proper storage.
• Work cooperatively with chefs and other kitchen staff.

Qualifications

• Culinary arts qualification, professional cookery certificate, or equivalent training preferred.
• Previous experience in a restaurant kitchen is an advantage.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques.
• Understanding of food safety and hygiene practices.
• Good organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods.
• Strong teamwork, willingness to learn, and a positive attitude.
• Good attention to detail and commitment to maintaining kitchen standards.
