Job Description

Our restaurant is looking for a motivated and dependable Commis Chef to join the kitchen team. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys cooking, wants to strengthen their culinary skills, and is ready to learn from experienced chefs in a busy restaurant environment. You will support daily food preparation, maintain high kitchen standards, and contribute to the smooth delivery of quality dishes to guests.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior chefs with food preparation, cooking, plating, and kitchen service.
• Prepare ingredients by washing, peeling, chopping, weighing, and portioning as required.
• Follow recipes, preparation methods, and portion-control standards accurately.
• Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety throughout the kitchen.
• Store ingredients correctly and monitor food freshness and quality.
• Support the kitchen team during busy service periods.
• Keep workstations, utensils, and kitchen equipment clean and organised.
• Help with receiving and organising kitchen supplies.
• Minimise food waste through careful preparation and appropriate storage.
• Follow all restaurant health, safety, and hygiene procedures.
• Learn new cooking techniques and develop culinary skills under the guidance of senior chefs.

Qualifications

• Culinary training, a culinary arts qualification, or equivalent practical kitchen training preferred.
• Previous experience in a restaurant kitchen is an advantage, but entry-level candidates with strong culinary interest are welcome.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation, cooking methods, and kitchen hygiene.
• Good understanding of food safety and safe food-handling practices.
• Ability to follow recipes and instructions accurately.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Reliable, organised, and willing to learn.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• Physical stamina to remain active and work on your feet for extended periods.
• Passion for cooking and a genuine interest in developing a career in the culinary field.
