Commis Chef

Job Description

Our restaurant is looking for a motivated and detail-oriented Commis Chef to join our kitchen team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with food, learning professional cooking techniques, and contributing to a well-organised kitchen. The successful candidate will work alongside experienced chefs to support daily food preparation and maintain the quality and consistency our restaurant is known for.

Responsibilities

• Assist chefs with food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, and portioning ingredients.
• Prepare basic dishes, sauces, garnishes, and ingredients according to recipes and instructions.
• Maintain clean, organised, and hygienic workstations throughout kitchen operations.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, and kitchen health and safety procedures.
• Store ingredients correctly and monitor food quality and freshness.
• Support chefs during busy service periods as required.
• Help receive, organise, and rotate kitchen supplies.
• Minimise food waste through careful preparation and portion control.
• Clean and maintain kitchen equipment and utensils.
• Work effectively with the wider kitchen team to ensure timely food service.

Qualifications

• Culinary qualification, professional cookery certificate, or relevant food preparation training is preferred.
• Previous experience in a restaurant kitchen is advantageous but not essential.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation, cooking methods, and kitchen hygiene.
• Good understanding of food safety practices.
• Strong willingness to learn and develop culinary skills.
• Ability to follow recipes, instructions, and portion specifications accurately.
• Good organisation and attention to detail.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen.
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to maintaining professional standards.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
