Job Description

Our restaurant is looking for a motivated and dependable Commis Chef to join the kitchen team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys food preparation, wants to strengthen their culinary skills, and is ready to learn from experienced chefs in a busy restaurant environment. The successful candidate will support daily kitchen operations while maintaining high standards of food quality, cleanliness, and presentation.

Responsibilities

• Assist chefs with food preparation, including washing, peeling, chopping, portioning, and basic cooking tasks.
• Prepare ingredients according to recipes, portion guides, and kitchen instructions.
• Support the preparation and service of dishes during busy restaurant periods.
• Maintain clean and organised workstations, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
• Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation procedures at all times.
• Store ingredients correctly and assist with stock rotation.
• Check the quality and freshness of ingredients before use.
• Help minimise food waste through careful preparation and proper storage.
• Support other kitchen team members as required.
• Follow instructions from senior chefs and contribute positively to the kitchen team.

Qualifications

• Culinary training, a food preparation qualification, or equivalent practical experience is preferred.
• Previous experience in a restaurant kitchen is an advantage, but motivated entry-level candidates may be considered.
• Basic knowledge of food preparation and kitchen safety.
• Good understanding of food hygiene and safe food-handling practices.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant environment.
• Strong attention to cleanliness, detail, and organisation.
• Willingness to learn new cooking techniques and follow professional kitchen standards.
• Good teamwork and communication skills.
• Physically able to remain active for extended periods during kitchen operations.
